Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the main view shows the ruins of Dudley Priory and Priory Hall from Dudley Castle, looking north-west towards Wren’s Nest Hill. There is a small reprise of the composition with the buildings framed by trees to the bottom right, made with the page turned vertically, inscribed ‘Dudley P. The Castle grey’; beside it is a study of the north-west tower of the castle keep, perhaps made looking back from the same vantage point. There is a similar thumbnail study of the keep on folio 71 verso (D22110; Turner Bequest CCXXXVIII 69a).
For other views of Dudley see under folio 23 recto (D22016).
