As Ian Warrell has noted,1 the focus of the main drawing is All Saints Church, Bakewell, seen on folio 30 verso opposite (D22205), under which other Bakewell sketches are mentioned; the view is to the north-east, with the bridge over the River Wye below the mound of the town’s motte and bailey castle in the present half of the drawing. The hills of the Peak District rise beyond in the direction of Chatsworth House (see under folio 43 verso; D22231). Later buildings and trees now obscure the prospect from Turner’s viewpoint south of the church.
To the right, separated by a rough vertical pencil line, are continuations of two drawings of Haddon Hall on folio 30 recto (D22204). At the bottom is the south-western end of the North Front; at the top right is the main portion of part of a loose drawing apparently showing an aspect of the hall and its surroundings. Turner’s notes seem to signify the square [North-]West Tower. For other views see under folio 24 recto (D22192).

There is a small irregular patch of brown dirt or pigment towards the centre right, offset from the opposite page (D22205).
