As Ian Warrell has noted, the upper view here is north-west1 up to Peveril Castle, with the entrance to Peak Cavern in the ravine below, and Castleton below on the left. Turner has apparently noted the relative heights of the castle keep and nearby trees. Below is a less resolved sketch showing a similar prospect. There is some overlap to and from other views of the castle on folio 42 verso opposite (D22229).
