Turner scholar David Hill identifies the principal features of this view, drawn with the page turned horizontally, from the north end of Crummock Water as Rannerdale Knotts, on the left, and Red Pike on the right. Compare the view towards Buttermere from Rannerdale Knotts on folio 40 recto (D01086: Turner Bequest XXXV 84). Both drawings were made at the extreme point of Turner’s excursion from Keswick to Buttermere, recorded in drawings made on folios 39 recto, 41 recto and 43 recto (D01029, D01030, D01045; Turner Bequest XXXV 27, 28, 30).
Technical notes:
There are spots of grey colour along the left edge.

Blank; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram; inscribed by Finberg in pencil ‘141.29’.
