Having recorded the view towards Rydal from the western banks of Grasmere Lake, Turner went on to the southern end of the lake and made this drawing with the page turned horizontally, taking in the whole of Rydal Water, with Heron Pike and Loughrigg Fell again flanking the vista. Another view of Rydal Water is on folio 65 recto (D01052; Turner Bequest XXXV 50), perhaps bound out of sequence, though possibly the product of a second visit to the place.

Blank; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram; inscribed by John Ruskin in brown ink ‘104’ (circled); ?in a later hand in blue crayon ‘16’; and by A.J. Finberg ‘141.34’.
