Here Turner has produced a further sketch of Marché, the small village from which the ascent to the ruins of the medieval castle of Franchimont commences. He has inscribed the village name as ‘Marchey’ at the bottom left of the folio. The view is similar to that taken on the previous folios (Tate D28096–D28097; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 28a–29), but the present sketch was clearly taken from a higher viewpoint and excludes the picturesque Pont de Marché traversing the river Hoëgne.
