In this finely rendered sketch, Turner draws a detailed depiction of the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame at Huy from the opposite bank of the River Meuse. The view incorporates both Li Pontia, the colloquial name for Huy’s ancient arched bridge, and the city’s defensive fortress which was remodelled in 1818 under the Dutch occupation.
