Turner’s sketch was taken from a quay on the north bank of the Meuse at Huy, then named the ‘Quai des Recollets’. Here the artist offers a view of all three of Huy’s celebrated monuments (the bridge, the cathedral, and the citadel) picturesquely tiered for visual impact.
