Here Turner has taken a view of Huy from a south-easterly viewpoint. The handling is rapid and abbreviated, marking out the generalities of the topography in quick linear notations. The buildings in this sketch were incorporated into the foreground of a gouache, pen and ink and watercolour drawing (Tate D20221; Turner Bequest CCXX N).
