Turner has sketched Dinant’s monolith, the Roche à Bayard, at the upper register of the paste-down on the inside back cover of this sketchbook. There is also a half-length profile of a Belgian woman in regional dress below it, orientated inversely to the foliation. The artist has made shorthand annotations around the figure, presumably to record the colours of her clothing. They read: ‘Yell[ow]’, ‘Red W Black’, ‘Yellow and Grey’.
