This swiftly rendered sketch depicts buildings in the Grund district of Luxembourg City. The narrow, tapering spire of the Church of Saint-Jean-du-Grund is visible in the foreground at right. Beyond is the Rham plateau and the old town of Luxembourg sketched in profile. The tower of St Michael’s Church crowns the cliff at far right.
