Running parallel to the long top outer-edge of the sketchbook is a very rough and loosely rendered view of hills in the Moselle valley. Beneath it, and orientated inversely, are two towers situated at and opposite to the village of Schweich. These are medieval Fährturme or Ferry Towers used as a form of harbour for the local ferry service which ran from Trier to Koblenz.1 See also Tate D28335; Turner Bequest CCLXXXIX 23.
