Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this rapid sketch focuses on a shallow boat or punt with a few associated figures. Beyond appear to be two horses, possibly towing the boat. Trees are loosely indicated on the left and rising ground beyond suggests a rural Thames Valley setting, in common with various other scenes in this book; see under folio 2 recto (D17775).
Technical notes:
John Ruskin’s customary red ink page number beside the later stamp is not readily apparent here, although those on other leaves of this sketchbook are generally very faint.
