With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner densely worked a westerly view of the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame in Grand Andely into the centre of this page. Particular attention has been paid to the bristling effect of the western façade’s four thirteenth-century towers. The church is located just over a mile east of Château Gaillard on the banks of the Seine which features heavily in this volume.
