With the sketchbook turned vertically, Turner filled much of this page with an expansive landscape view of a towered building amidst rolling hills. The adjacent pages of the volume contain descriptions of Château Gaillard and the associated villages of Les Andelys on the Seine in Normandy. This sketch may therefore depict the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame at Grand Andely, just over a mile east inland from the riverbank; for a comparison, see folio 52 verso (D23984; Turner Bequest CCLIV 52a).
