With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled the top half of this page with a drawing of waterside buildings set in a hilly landscape. Tall dark trees and the sail of a small boat punctuate the centre and right-hand edge of the composition respectively. Such scenes abound along the Normandy banks of the Seine which were the subject of extensive study in this volume. However, a similar drawing identifiable as Caudebec-en-Caux on the recto of this leaf suggests a more precise location; see folio 75 recto (Tate D24029; Turner Bequest CCLIV 75).
