Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the subject is continued on folio 60 recto opposite (D01561; Turner Bequest XL 58). A colour study based on this drawing is Tate D02352 (Turner Bequest L K). Another view of Llandovery Castle is on folios 55 verso–56 recto (D01552–D01553; Turner Bequest XL 53a–54).

There are isolated spots of brown paint.
