Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the drawing is continued on folio 30 recto opposite (D01734; Turner Bequest XLII 59). Here Turner shows the interior of Ewenny Priory from a viewpoint opposite to that he adopted for his Royal Academy watercolour of 1797 (National Museum Wales, Cardiff).1 We are looking from the south transept over the crossing towards the north transept, with the chancel on the right, separated from the crossing by the rood screen, a detail of which Turner has studied separately at top right. The tomb of Sir Roger de Remi is in the foreground. Another drawing of the interior of Ewenny is on folio 27 verso (D01729; Turner Bequest XLII 54).
