Here Turner pictures a river or canal flowing through a town, with buildings either side of its banks. The scene may show Brussels, or the Meuse or Ourthe Rivers at Liège which is depicted on Tate D19592; Turner Bequest CCXVI 21. The lack of distinct identifying features makes it impossible to be certain of Turner’s exact location.
