Here Turner pictures a building with waterwheels, possibly a mill, situated in the outskirts of Huy. A lone figure stands at the edge of a double-arched bridge crossing a narrow stream at centre. The towering profile of what appears to be Huy’s citadel can be seen in the distance. A similar view is recorded in the later Spa, Dinant and Namur sketchbook of 1839 (see Tate D28055; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 7a). Turner’s sketches of the outskirts of Huy continue on the following folio (Tate D19629; Turner Bequest CCXVI 39a).
