With the sketchbook orientated horizontally, Turner has drawn a cursory view of a hilly landscape, possibly the Moselle valley, and a village with a bridge and tall trees. With the sketchbook turned upside down, the beginnings of a further hilly landscape become visible as well as the details of two church spires.
