In these carefully wrought sketches Turner depicts the village of Pallien and city of Trier opposite one another on the banks of the Moselle. Pallien is shown on the left, while Trier’s majestic cathedral, Liebfrauenkirche, Church of St Gangolf and the Martinskloster can be seen at right.
