This loose and freely executed sketch shows Cochem from a southerly perspective, looking downstream on the Moselle. At top right Turner has produced a smaller, slighter sketch of the town, squared off from the rest of the page. Visible is Cochem’s Reichsburg Castle, the Plague Chapel of St Roch, and the Church of St Martin in the town centre. For further depictions of Cochem in this sketchbook see Tate D19792–D19795; Turner Bequest CCXVI 121–122a.
