This slight and swiftly executed sketch is of Dieppe Harbour, taken by Turner from a point on the Quai Henri IV. The sun sits low in the sky at right, casting reflections on the waters below.
The bridge shown here is depicted again on in Tate D19987, D20209, D20031, D24524; Turner Bequest CCXVI 222a, 244a, CCXX C, CCLVIII 13 and in the oil painting Dieppe: The Port from the Quai Henry IV of around 1827–8 (Tate N03385).
