These extremely rough sketches, more an assemblage of irregular marks, are thought to show ‘views’, perhaps of a river or harbour. At the top of the sheet Turner has inscribed the note: ‘7 Franc 44 pence’. This is presumably the price for some item he came across and his use of ‘pence’ should probably be understood as ‘centime’.
