With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled most of this page with a long perspective view of palace gates and architecture bordered by a terraced street at the right-hand side of the scene. Although the location of these scenes has not been identified, this part of the volume is dominated by drawings of the gardens and palace at Versailles, located some twelve miles south-west of central Paris. A list of these studies is provided in the sketchbook Introduction for comparison.
