With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with a study of the chateau and town of Rambouillet, located some thirty miles south-west of Paris. Glimpsed at the centre of the page between the trunks of trees, the house is identifiable by the conical roofs of its corner towers. Turner made several sketches of this site in the present volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook Introduction.
