With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with two hilly landscape views. The lower sketch depicts a bend in a river lined on one side by hills and buildings. Turner travelled extensively along the course of the Seine in the Île-de-France with this sketchbook and also up the River Marne to the east of the city so these drawings were probably made in one of those regions.
