With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with two drawings of Paris seen in the distance from a high vantage. The sketch on the bottom half of the page records the city’s varied skyline with the two western towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral on the right-hand side of the scene. A large dome, belonging to Les Invalides or the Panthéon, is featured in the top view, with the River Seine curving through the landscape to the right.
