Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Finberg,1 followed by Stanley Warburton,2 reads the second name here as ‘Tomkison’. Both names probably refer to patrons who had commissioned a watercolour either of the drawing on the recto of the leaf (D01983; Turner Bequest XLV 43), or another in the book, perhaps that on folio 45 recto opposite (D01984; Turner Bequest XLV 44).
