Inscribed inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, Turner has filled the page with notes of place names and associated expenditure in pounds, shillings and pence, all in pencil except the ‘9 5’ in brown ink at the end of the first of the two distinct tables. The figures at the top appear unrelated:

These place–names are those marking Turner’s itinerary through north–east England and up into the Scottish Highlands; see the sketchbook’s Introduction.
The upper list includes some abbreviated place names. ‘H’ may indicate Helmsley, with ‘Pick’ for Pickering, ‘Scar’ for Scarborough, ‘Wit’ for Whitby, ‘Gis’ for Guisborough, ‘Stock’ for Stockton, ‘Sedg’ for Sedgefield, ‘Newcast’ for Newcastle upon Tyne, and ‘Weldon B’ for Weldon Bridge. In the second part, ‘Lithgo’ indicates Linlithgow and ‘Arraque’ is Arrochar.
