The drawing is inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation. Rievaulx was to form the subject of several of Turner’s later works; for his studies in this sketchbook, see under folios 1 recto and 102 verso (D02614, D02784).
Technical notes:
The touches of white gouache used for highlights have oxidised and darkened.
