This slight sketch shows a building at the harbour or beach of Great Yarmouth on the Norfolk coast. The wooden hut may have been used for storing fishing equipment. Faint vertical strokes of pencil suggest the masts of moored boats in the distance.
Further sketches of Yarmouth are on Tate D18194–D18196, D18202–D18205; Turner Bequest CCIX 20–21, 24–25a. Turner’s sketches are associated with designs for both the England and Wales (Tate impression T04547) and East Coast engraving schemes, though the latter design, housed at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, was unpublished.1
