Here Turner has swiftly dashed off a sketch of the sky, annotating it with colour notes (see also Tate D18464–D18468; Turner Bequest CCX 86–88). A group of sky and sunset studies are also recorded on Tate D18378–D18379, D18477–D18478; Turner Bequest CCX 41–42, 93–93a. These are associated with Turner’s final stay at Farnley Hall with his close friend and patron Sir Walter Fawkes in November and December 1824.
