Some of these studies are inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, and others made with the page turned vertically. They show figures including women in prominent bonnets in and around rowing boats. They may be spectators at Cowes Regatta from late July 1827 onwards or related events. These are among many such coastal and nautical studies in this sketchbook, presumably made in the vicinity of Cowes as discussed in the Introduction.
