The three drawings were made with the page turned vertically. The upper sketch seems to be a shore scene, with boats moored and sailing beyond and perhaps a rowing boat with figures in the foreground, as well as slight indications of buildings; the setting may be Cowes. In the middle a group of yachts is shown under way from astern, while the bottom view is south from the Solent to Norris Castle, near East Cowes (see under folio 40 recto; D20658; Turner Bequest CCXXVI 38); see also folio 47 recto opposite (D20669; Turner Bequest CCXXVI 45).
