There are three studies here. The lowest shows yachts heading north into the Solent from the River Medina off Cowes, with East Cowes Castle (see under folio 1 verso; D20597) on the skyline to the south-east. The top view may be of the East Cowes headland, while the slightly disjointed profile between may indicate East Cowes and Cowes from the Solent, looking south.
