These quick drawings are inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation. There are at least two, and possibly three or even four separate studies, with a view separated by pencil lines at the top centre showing a yacht passing boats moored on the River Medina, with East Cowes Castle (see under folio 1 verso; D20597) outlined on the skyline beyond. Below are studies of yachts manoeuvring, apparently in two studies divided by a vertical line, with figures in a small sailing boat at the bottom left in what may be a further separate note.
