There are separate studies of various yachts here; with the page turned vertically, near the gutter Turner has drawn the profile of a hull and labelled it (the other way up) ‘Miranda’. Belonging to James Maxse, the vessel was a celebrated one, and performed exceptionally in regatta events at Cowes in 1827, winning the hundred guinea cup on 31 July and the Royal Yacht Club1 gold cup, presented by King George IV, on 13 August.
