With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with a studies of the coast of Brittany. Tate curator Ian Warrell has tentatively suggested that they represent scenes close to the seaside settlements of Brest and Le Conquet. These locations feature on multiple pages in this part of the volume, list of which are included in the sketchbook introduction for comparison.1
