With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with an easterly view along Quai de la Fosse towards the Île Feydeau at Nantes. Tate curator Ian Warrell has pointed out that this drawing is related to a colour study; see Tate D24573 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 8).1 The pages of this volume feature many depictions of this Brittany city, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction.
