With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with a drawings of a miscellany of sites in the Loire Valley. The identifiable subjects are the church at Parnay in the upper right-hand quadrant of the page, the castle of the city of Saumur at the centre of the bottom edge, and one of the region’s distinctive cave dwellings in the bottom right hand corner. Each of these subjects recur at several points in this volume; a list of these drawings is included in the sketchbook introduction.
