With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with studies of the gothic Church of Saint-Julien in Tours.1 This is one of a number of pages featuring the architecture of this building in this volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook introduction. A drawing of a ‘diligence’, or stagecoach, is included in the lower left-hand quadrant of the page.
