Turner filled the upper half of this page with studies of the town of Caen. Particular care has been taken over the depiction of the Abbey Church of Saint-Etienne in the upper left-hand quadrant of the page. The artist filled several pages of the present volume with studies of this Normandy town, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction.
