Turner filled this page with multiple studies of settlements in coastal terrain. A pencil note towards the bottom left-hand corner of the page locates the landscape in the lower half of the page to the vicinity of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. Tate curator Ian Warrell suggested that the remaining sketches were taken in the vicinity of Le Havre on the Normandy coast.1 The artist filled several pages of the present volume with studies of this area, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction.
