Made with the page turned vertically, the main view is along the nave of Milan Cathedral, with the disk of the rose window at the apsidal end in the distance. The vertical strokes above the arch at the centre indicate the niches of carved figures below the crossing under the lantern. For other views in the cathedral and elsewhere in the city at the beginning of this sketchbook, see under folio 2 recto (D14328).
At the top right, inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, is a study the head and shoulders of a woman from the back; for other figure studies in this book, see under folio 18 verso (D14351).
