The uppermost sketch shows the Elbe in Saxony with the Bärensteine or ‘Bear Rock’ at left and Lilienstein table mountain at right. Königstein Fortress, built atop a mountain of the same name, is depicted twice at centre, and at rear Turner records all three mountains: the Bärensteine at left, Lilienstein at centre, and Königstein at right. The fortress is shown again on Tate D30931–D30947, D30949; Turner Bequest CCCVI 24a–32a, 33a.
