This drawing depicts the Zwinger Palace in Dresden, taken from a point near the Nymphenbad (‘Nymphs’ Bath’) fountain. The city of Dresden can be seen beyond, with the Schloss and Frauenkirche at left, the Crown Gate – a ceremonial entranceway topped with a giant crown – at centre, and the pavilions of the Zwinger at right.
