This is a view of Berlin’s River Spree taken from a vantage point on the Langebrücke (now Rathausbrücke). At left is the eastern façade of the Berliner Schloss, formerly the residence of the Kings of Prussia.
Turner has also rendered a small sketch of a woman carrying a child; this is orientated with the sketchbook turned in accordance with the foliation.
For other sketches of Berlin see Tate D21045–D31082; Turner Bequest CCCVII 13a–32.
