This rough sketch shows shipping in front of the Ooster Oude Hooft-Poort, the eastern gate to the old port of Rotterdam (see Tate D32489; Turner Bequest CCCXXI 24). Visible in the foreground is the landing stage for shipping to Dort, Middleburg and Brielle.
